School History

Divine Providence School opened on September 3, 1958, admitting 281 children in grades 1 through 6, under the direction of a staff consisting of three nuns and four lay teachers.

Two additions of four classrooms each were added, one in 1959, and the other in 1960. The school reached its peak enrollment in 1967 with 724 children in sixteen classrooms.

In September 1978, pre-school and kindergarten classes were added to our grammar school in the hope this earlier introduction to the values of Catholic education would stem the decline in enrollment in grades 1 through 8. Though early, there were signs of success.

Currently, Divine Providence School services children in three year old pre-school through eighth grade. There is a before and after school program as well as a hot lunch program. There are fourteen lay teachers as well as three teachers aides. While numbers and buildings may have changed, bringing children closer to Christ and allowing the to deepen their faith while being taught a challenging curriculum has remained the same.
